Unlike the soft, boil-and-bite trays sold at sporting goods stores, a custom guard is built from a precise digital scan of your teeth using our Primescan scanner, then fabricated by a dental lab in hard acrylic, dual-laminate, or soft thermoplastic depending on the job.
Night guards for grinding (bruxism) are typically made in a hard acrylic or dual-laminate material so they resist clenching forces without compressing. Sports guards use a layered, shock-absorbing material that protects teeth and soft tissue during contact. Snore guards (mandibular advancement devices) are two-piece appliances that gently position the lower jaw forward to keep the airway open during sleep, and are FDA cleared for mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea and primary snoring.

For severe sleep apnea, CPAP is still the gold standard, though oral appliances can sometimes be used together with CPAP. Dr. Cook will help you understand the right path for your situation.

Most custom guards are ready for delivery 1 to 2 weeks after your scan visit. The scan itself takes about 30 minutes, and your fitting appointment is about 20 minutes. We will call you as soon as your guard arrives from the lab.
