Same-Day Crowns
Chairside CEREC milling from your digital scan

Dr. Cook uses the Primescan digital scanner to map your teeth in 3D, no putty trays, no gagging, no waiting.
Modern dental impressions are faster, cleaner, and far more comfortable.
Traditional dental impressions involve mixing a putty-like material, loading it into a tray, and pressing it firmly over your teeth for several minutes while it sets. The material can taste odd, trigger the gag reflex, and feels uncomfortable for patients with sensitive teeth or limited jaw opening. The physical mold then has to be shipped to a lab, which adds days to your treatment timeline and introduces small distortions that can affect how well your final crown or aligner fits.
At Cook Family Dentistry we use the Dentsply Sirona Primescan, one of the most accurate intraoral scanners available. Dr. Cook moves a slim wand across your teeth and gums, capturing hundreds of thousands of data points to build a true-to-life 3D model in 1 to 3 minutes per arch. The file is sent digitally to our lab or used chairside for same-day CEREC crowns, with no putty, no taste, and no second appointment to retake a failed mold.
Good to Know
An intraoral camera that builds a precise 3D model of your teeth and bite.
A digital dental scanner is a handheld optical device that captures the shape of your teeth, gums, and bite using safe visible light and high-speed cameras. Cook Family Dentistry uses the Dentsply Sirona Primescan, a wand-style intraoral scanner that builds a full 3D digital impression in real time, with no radiation and no impression material. The Primescan integrates with our CEREC same-day crown workflow, our Suresmile and Invisalign aligner planning, and our digital implant restorations.
Inside the wand, structured-light technology projects a precise pattern onto your teeth while two cameras record how that pattern deforms across each surface. Software stitches those images into a single 3D file containing both hard tissue (teeth) and soft tissue (gums) with high accuracy. The resulting file can be sent directly to a dental lab, layered with a CBCT 3D scan for implant planning, or used to mill a crown the same day.
For patients, the experience is simple. You sit back in the chair, Dr. Cook or one of our trained team members glides the wand across each arch, and you watch your teeth appear on the monitor in full color. There is no putty, no tray, no waiting for the material to set, and no risk of the impression being rejected and having to be retaken.
A full digital scan takes only 5 to 8 minutes with no putty impressions, and your files are sent to the lab or mill instantly. Here's what to expect during your scan.

Primescan uses safe visible light, no radiation, and no chemicals.
Digital intraoral scanners are among the safest tools in modern dentistry. Primescan uses harmless visible light, not X-rays or lasers, so there is no radiation. Side effects are essentially limited to brief mild jaw fatigue from keeping your mouth open, and rare temporary sensitivity if a tooth surface is air-dried longer than usual. There is no aftercare, soreness, or recovery time.
Because there is no putty material, the scan removes the risk of gagging, accidental swallowing, or allergic reaction to impression materials. Serious complications are not associated with intraoral scanning when performed by a trained provider.
For patients with significant gag reflexes, dental anxiety, or sensitivity to impression materials, Primescan is generally far more comfortable than putty trays. Always let our team know about any medical conditions or concerns so Dr. Cook can adapt the scanning approach to your needs.
Digital scanning with Primescan is built into your procedure fee at Cook Family Dentistry at no extra charge, so you get the most accurate impression technology available without paying anything additional.
At Cook Family Dentistry, there is no separate fee for using the Primescan digital scanner. Digital scanning is built into the cost of your crown, aligner, implant restoration, night guard, or denture, the same way a traditional impression would be. You get the comfort and accuracy of advanced technology without paying extra for it.
